Korean Mountain Dojo - Loop

"Very clever"

date: January 29, 2007

Hah, I loved the rain. This was a very catchy loop - the instruments weren't too synth-y for me, and I dug the banjo sound.

Kudos!

THAT is what I'm talking about.

You're very good at the way you introduce your instruments into a progression, firestorm. The piano motif was a great touch - you seem to not only know how to write chords, but also which instruments to choose for what parts of the piece to evoke certain emotions. It really is a great skill - you stand out among other orchestral writers in that way.

For intstance, the fact that you chose only one voice of high-end piano (with soft harmonies) at first complimented the song's air-y tone, whereas some people would get carried away with the composition and try to write an entire piano score in the background; that wouldn't have worked.

Keep doing what you're doing, man. I look forward to more music from you.

Make it Rain

"Wow.."

I can't believe I haven't already reviewed this piece, as I've known about it for some time. Needless to say, you did a wonderful job with the progression - you introduced new instrumentation very subtley, and overall it made for a very emotionally charged piece. Even the title and description of the song were well chosen.

Your suspended fourths and use of the relative major were also awesome. Fantastic job all around.

Looking foward to your next piece!

The monster within part2

"Loved it"

date: January 28, 2007

This was a fantastic sound! You captured the drama perfectly - imagine what you could do with a live symphony at your disposal.

It may just be my speakers, but it would have been nice if you had taken the low end down a bit; that's really more of a personal preference than a critique, though.

The chord progression was exciting - excellent job. I look foward to future pieces, madboss!

Author's Response:

I'm glad you liked this piece - and maybe I left the low end sounds a bit too loud and the sound is not your speakers fault. Thanks for your review and your attention!

I love your laid-back jazzy stuff, cheezman. You really do a great job with your stereo enhancement - what mastering system are you using here?

In any case, it came through great on my speakers. Loved the bass.
Keep it up my friend!

Author's Response:

For this one I used an Exciter (software) and extreme panning between delay, reverb and the actual sound. Seems like it worked out then. Thanks for your review!

"A fine job"

Jerrims, the main reason I like your stuff is because it's so clear that you like making it. Keep writing music for the enjoyment - that's how I recommend everyone do it.

Kudos on another great song!

Lydian Pinball Dominator

"Excellent!"

date: January 20, 2007

Hey, this was very clever. I'm not going to be forgetting the lydian scale anytime soon!

This would make great pinball music. Even the deaf, dumb and blind kid would approve.

Author's Response:

Wow thank you for the compliment! Funny you should mention forgetting the scale, when I started this piece I was just wanting to learn to recognize the lydian dominant scale in all its forms. Mostly since it is supposed to be all the rage in the Jazz world and can give a great groove over Tri-tone Substitutions. In the end it sounded more like an old pinball game so I added in the sounds effects. Now I'll have to find Helen Keller and see if your hypothesis is correct.

"Fan-bloody-tastic!"

date: January 13, 2007

Not only did you get a dead-on cover, but the parts you added were fascinating and pleasant to listen to. Great bass sound .. KILLER bass sound. :-)

Loved it - keep up the good work! You've got one of the only pop submissions rated above mine on newgrounds, but I'm still giving you...

"Thanks for your vote, JackieChan726! You voted 5 for "Axel-F 2007" - Reason3.0, raising its score from 4.67 to 4.75."

Author's Response:

I'm glad you enjoyed this "remake" of the classic song. The little additions came from brainstorming and experimenting with the Combinator in Reason 3.0. It's funny that I still watch the movie because of this song. hehehe. Thanks for listening and taking time to write a review.
